Battles
During the Revolutionary War, what was life like for families? During the war, battles would happen wherever 2 armies met up. That means sometimes war would come into colonist's land. When was came to town, colonists fled. If armies met up during the early morning, sometimes families would wake up to gun sounds.
Daily Life
The Revolutionary War made life different for colonists, but some things stayed the same too. During the war, colonists lived in the same houses, different colonies had different styles of houses. Southern colonies had high ceilings and big windows to help keep colonists cooled off in the South. Massachusetts and Connecticut houses had low ceilings and tiny windows to trap heat. Houses are one thing that stayed the same during the Revolutionary War. Another thing that stayed the same was clothes. Wealthy families would wear expensive clothes to show of their success.
Roles
When men got enlisted in the war, the women and children took on all the jobs that their husband/father had. For example, lots of men owned land or a farm, so the women and children would take care of it. Also, children were busy at their house because their mom was busy taking on all of her husbands jobs, so the children would take care of the house and their siblings. Life was hard for women and children during the war because they had to take care of their husband/father's jobs. If they didn't take on their jobs the farms would fall apart. The animals would not be taken care of, the crops, and the land. The men were lucky to have their wife and children taking care of their jobs while they were enlisted. If you were a child or wife during the Revolutionary War, would you take on the extra work?
